Also, in high frequency applications, there comes a point where drawing circles is more feasible than actually mathing out the equations
behold, a smith chart!
the general idea is that when dealing with waves at super high frequencies, you need to design for how the wave behaves at a specific point in its cycle
but since physics is weird, you have multiple factors in play, represented by the real and imaginary components in the modelling equation
and since the waves are cyclical, you can represent the different properties with circles! And then design systems based on where those circles intersect!
and since the equations are super weird, drawing circles is better for building intuition around the design process than computing the result (pre-fancy-computers, it was also faster)
Anyways, I firmly believe someone sold their soul to obtain this model, def in the realm of mathemagics
